Amman
A fascinating city of contrasts
Amman, the capital and largest city of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is far from the quiet sleepy village it once was. Today, Amman is a bustling metropolis boasting new resorts and hotels and many activities for travellers to come and experience. If you are expecting to see medieval souks and bazaars or glimpses of mosques and Islamic architecture, you’ll be in for a surprise. Instead, you’ll see a modern Arab city embracing an international and cultural vision of the future.
Getting there
Travel to Amman (and to Jordan) via Queen Alia International Airport. While westerners get their visas on arrival, others can obtain them before hand from the Jordanian embassy or consulate overseas. Offering the lowest fares whether traveling on business or leisure you can indulge in some great adventure travel. Other modes of transport to and from East Amman and West Amman can be accessed via the Jordon Express Tourist Transport (JETT) or the Hedjaz Jordan Railway (HJR)
Transportation
The colourful yellow and grey taxis are readily available and can be found around every corner in Amman or the bus is another convenient mode of transport.
Explore
Amman’s places of interest are vast and varied and a day of sightseeing wouldn’t suffice. If you are visiting the Citadel Hill of Amman, travel all the way to the top and work your way down to the Roman theatre. Whatever your trip, don’t miss out on visiting Petra. Renowned for its rock-cut architecture and running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba, it is considered one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.
